Awards & Opportunities

The College of Liberal Arts and Sciences at the University of Kansas places great importance on rewarding the outstanding achievements of our graduate faculty and providing meaningful support and recognition to our most promising graduate students.  The following programs recognize their invaluable contribution to excellence in graduate education in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences.  More information can be found on each by clicking on the item in the left menu.

Faculty Awards

Byron A. Alexandar Graduate Mentor Award - Graduate students may nominate outstanding mentors to receive this award of up to $1,000.

John C. Wright Graduate Mentor Award - Graduate students may nominate outstanding mentors to receive this award of up to $750.

Graduate Student Funding, Awards & Opportunities

Dean's Doctoral Fellowship - These new awards are intended to promote a culture of grant-seeking among the College's doctoral students and academic units.  For these awards, the review committee will consider a department's readiness to support grant-seeking among its graduate students. Fellows receive a stipend (ranging between $20,000-$22,000) plus resident rate tuition and required fees for up to five years of doctoral study.

Outstanding Thesis/Research Project Award - Provides recognition for outstanding achievement on the master's thesis or research project.  Students are nominated by their departments.  Two awards of $500 are given each year.

Allen S. Wilber Scholarship - Eligible departments may nominate one student each year for this award, which provides one-time funding of up to $10,000 for the study of social sciences or modern languages and literatures at the graduate level.  The award is limited to those who completed an undergraduate degree at KU.

College Graduate Student Advisory Board - a voluntary, appointed board of graduate students and graduate alumni who serve at the invitation of the Dean of the College. The board meets once per semester, nominations are accepted at the beginning of the fall semester. Complimentary Transcript Request -  The College will cover the cost of ONE transcript for each graduate student applying for a grant or fellowship.  The grant or fellowship must require an official transcript as part of the application or acceptance process. A student may only request this fee coverage once during their graduate career. Please visit the left navigation pane to access the form and further information.
